THE card from our youth was pulled live during the Vintage Breaks card breaks. From the original series 1977 Topps Star Wars came this pack-fresh Luke Skywalker rookie card.
When we cracked open the PSA-graded and slabbed pack of Series 1 Star Wars cards from the 1977 Topps release, we were hoping to find THE Luke Skywalker rookie card. Topps wisely placed a profile photo card of Luke as card #1 in the set. Like baseball cards, the Star Wars cards were released in multiple series. The first series has cards 1-66. Many cards feature images from the movie and follow the story like card 10, Princess Leia - Captured! or card 43, Luke Prepares to Swing Across the Chasm. A few of the cards are nice profile images and card #1 is just that of Luke Skywalker. As the most coveted card in the set, the Skywalker is rare to find in top condition and carries a hefty price tag. The PSA population report lists only 3,358 having been graded and just 9 ever graded a Gem Mint PSA 10. The value of a PSA 10 is around $25,000!
Each wax pack has 7 cards and 1 sticker along with a clearly still delicious stick of nearly 50-year-old gum. Could we pull a Luke? With only 66 cards in the series and 7 in this pack, we felt good going in! Watch our breakers, Dom "DT3" and the "Young Gun" Rob open the pack:

The smile on Dom's face says it all! Congratulations on this Luke Skywalker rookie card, Kevin W. The centering is amazing! The powder blue border surrounds Luke Skywalker as he looks with his head titled right. The Star Wars in yellow text with that burst of red pops with the background colors. Just holding the card takes us back to the says of the Kenner action figures, playing with each on a Saturday morning. Pretty sure we broke the Obi-Wan Kenobi plastic blue lightsaber that popped out from his arm on that little toy about 15 minutes after we opened it up.
We don't believe the card will get a grade of 10 by PSA, but we're hoping for 9! Only 84 cards have been graded as a PSA 9.
