History was made during the Vintage Breaks card breaks this week! Fresh from a sealed pack of 1955 Topps All-American football cards, we pulled a card of The Four Horsemen!
In 1927, the Notre Dame football team won the National Championship. Under coach Knute Rockne, ND steamrolled the competition, outscoring their opponents 285 to 54 during their 10-0 season. The backfield of Harry Stuhldreher (QB), Don Miller (HB), Jim Crowley (HB), and Elmer Layden (FB) were famously dubbed The Four Horsemen by sportswriter, Grantland Rice.
In 1955, Topps could not create cards of professional players as Bowman obtained the contracts with which to do so. Topps conjured up the idea to produce a card set featuring Heisman Trophy winners and retired players in the Hall of Fame. Born was the 100-card set of Topps All-American. On the checklist is a card of those famed Horsemen.

We ripped into the pack, hoping for a Four Horsemen card, and THIS happened:
Congratulations to Charles Perry for pulling this iconic card! You can see the players in their Notre Dame uniforms, hands on their knees, and the leather helmets atop their heads. The yellow background really makes those green shirts pop. At the bottom, you can see the name The Four Horsemen.
The PSA Population report lists ZERO known PSA 10's for The Four Horsemen card. Without a qualifier, there are 22 cards graded PSA 9, 118 graded PSA 8, and 231 graded PSA 7. There are sparse numbers in high-grade for every card in the set - each of you in this break is taking home a piece of history!
