The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is currently in the midst of their Summer Author Series that showcases the latest in baseball writing by featuring a new author every week through August. The Author Series invites writers to discuss their latest work and to take audience questions at the museum’s Bullpen Theater. You have the chance to see Dwier Brown from the iconic film, Field of Dreams!
On the last Friday in July, Dwier Brown will discuss his book “If You Build It…: A book about Fathers, Fate and Field of Dreams”. Brown has been an actor for over 35 years with his most famous role coming in 1989 when he portrayed John Kinsella, Ray Kinsella’s father in “Field of Dreams”. The role of Ray Kinsella was famously played by Kevin Costner and the two actors, who only had one appearance together in the film, concluded the movie with a scene so memorable that it is still talked about to this day.
In “If You Build It…”, Brown writes about his experience filming “Field of Dreams” while also explaining how his life changed since the release of the film. Brown’s father passed away shortly before filming his scene with Costner. Since the movie’s release, Brown has been recognized by many fans who have shared with him stories about their own fathers and how watching the film changed their lives. Their poignant stories helped put his own father’s death into perspective.
The Dwier Brown event is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday, July 29th. All of the information is HERE. If you're itching to watch Field of Dreams afterwards, you're in luck! The Hall of Fame is showing a screening of the movie at 7:00 PM, too! You can read up on the screening here.
